IFS Meditation to allow the body to self-heal

Scroll down to listen to a guided meditation I have created to allow the body to enter into a state of self-healing by asking parts to step back. You can either jump to the bottom of this article to listen to the mediation, or you can read a little bit more about the reasoning behind the meditation (which might calm down your anxious parts).

IFS (Internal Family Systems) offers a simple, yet powerful, way to understand healing and self-healing. This idea is based on the Self, which you can read more about in some of my other articles.

Many people are familiar with the 8 C’s of Self (Curiosity, Compassion, Clarity, Calm, Creativity, Connectedness, Courage, Confidence) and, if we go back to the first writings of Dick Schwartz, the founder of IFS, we discover that there is more to Self than these qualities. Self has an innate ability to heal, and this is an ability that our body has got too. The C of Calm can be employed to enter a state of relaxation, which many scientific studies have proven to be the most powerful way of healing. Rest and good sleep, as a matter of fact, allow the body to restore its health spontaneously.

If we want to continue to make reference to science, the discoveries around the sympathetic and parasympathetic nervous systems tell us that we enter into a state of spontaneous regeneration when the sympathetic nervous system deactivates and the parasympathetic can do its job.

Whether it is our body parts doing the healing or the Self, it is something I do not know yet. What I certainly know is that the qualities that we attribute to Self are the doorway to the deactivation of the sympathetic nervous system, which is mainly triggered by stress, worries, fears, anxiety, etc.

In order to heal, the body needs to enter into a state of relaxation that is accessed naturally when the parts that carry difficult emotions step back.

I have created a meditation in which I invite the parts that carry worries, stress, anger and sadness to step back as much as possible. After that, I invite the parts that are willing to do so, to form a boundary of protection so that the body can relax as much as possible. It is less than 10 minutes long, and it is freely available on youtube, or you can watch it here.

I hope you enjoy it!
